A Stay-Cation for Dinner: Terrazas at the Hyde

Happy Summer everyone! I know, we pretty much have summer year-round here in South Florida, but can’t you just feel it? The summer vibes? The sun-dresses dancing with the wind, the sudden need to sip on drinks that have little umbrellas in them and the feeling of a much needed vacation? I feel it. Might also be because I felt like I was on staycation when I went to the Terrazas at the Hyde this past weekend. Overlooking the ocean and the Hallandale Water tower, this restaurant sits on the 9th terrace of the Hyde Resort & Residences, sharing its space with pools, cabanas and outdoor bar. There is, of course, a quintessential indoor seating space, but with the lovely good weather we got (lucky us! #floridalife), we opted for outdoors.

The restaurant is perfect for both a fun lunch with kids or for a nice meal overlooking the water with bae. The menu reflects both moods, offering a menu with everything from cheese pairing platters, filet mignon and Argentinian style skirt steak to "poolside" selections that offer more laid back options such as burgers, sandwiches and tacos.

The first item off the menu is for the tuna enthusiasts. The Tuna Tar Tar is great. The tuna is fresh, not fishy and a generous amount is served. It is topped with a tasty avocado mash and served with (CHIFA STYLE!) fried wontons. You may have to order extra wontons because three wasn’t enough for me.

Next up, the bruschetta flat bread. This flatbread is topped with roasted tomatoes which are slight sweet contrast to the cheese, making this item a perfect addition to the summer vibe. Its packed with flavor, due to the house herb blend, drizzled oil and all that CHEEEEEEEESE.

You're never to old to eat food off of a stick, so whether its for you or the kids, I definitely recommend trying the Lollipop Shrimp. The breading is a little sweet, it reminds me of coconut shrimp without the coconut. I love the “on a stick” idea for a poolside item, making it a really fun choice. Its served with a flavor packed house orange jam for dippin’.

By far my favorite item was the burger. This burger has easily made it to one of my favorite burgers to date. I was nice and shared it with my fellow foodie and the consensus was agreed upon. The bread is sweet (a hint of sweetness, but not potato bread sweet), served with a chipotle aioli sauce (made in house!) that has a nice kick to it that is balanced perfectly by the fresh guacamole. The burger itself is a solid size and the quality of the meat is apparent from the first bite. I recommend pairing the burger with the truffle fries, it’s worth the upcharge. Truffle fries are already delicious, but many places take short cuts, toss some parmesan and call it a day. You can tell the difference when actual truffle Is used, and the grade of the parmesan cheese is good.

Never skip dessert! We had the Chocolate Nutella Cake. Look, I love Nutella as much as the next person, but this drowning of items in Nutella is frankly a little much for me. With that being said, this cake is a perfect balance of Nutella and cake, so it was right up my alley. Adding a cool textual contrast to the mix, the yellow sponge cake is soaked in vanilla syrup, giving the added flavor and moisture, which blends deliciously with the Nutella buttercream. Served with ice cream, and voila! A Nutella masterpiece.

Quick note to add: This is a fun place to watch the World Cup. They have HUGE TV’s inside and outside playing all the games.
